Paris Saint-Germain have decided not to pursue Manchester City's key midfielder Bernardo Silva.
“PSG have stopped pursuing a deal for City's Silva,” Get French Football News reported on Sunday (Aug. 27), citing French outlet Le Parisien,
Silva showed promise during his time at AS Monaco, where he formed Monaco's Golden Generation in 2016/17 alongside Kylian Mbappe, Thomas Lemar and Fabinho. Monaco won the Ligue 1 title that season and reached the last four of the UEFA Champions League.
Silva broke into the English Premier League (EPL) after a successful stint at Monaco. City made a €50 million ($73.9 billion) move for Silva. A favorite of Pep Guardiola, Silva has played in a variety of roles at City, including central midfield and lateral midfield. In his seven years at City, Silva scored 66 goals and provided 66 assists in 355 games.
Silva was part of City's golden era, winning numerous trophies. With City, Silva won six EPL titles, one UEFA Champions League, two FA Cups, four League Cups, and two Communique Shields. He completed a dominant triple in the 2017/18 season, winning the EPL, FA Cup, and League Cup. Instead, PSG are targeting a new left wing forward to minimize the void left by Mbappe. According to Le Parisien, Napoli's Hvitsa Kvarachelia is at the top of PSG's list. Kvarachelia has scored 11 goals and provided nine assists in 45 official appearances for Napoli this season.
Silva's absence from PSG is also good news for Lee. With his ability to play in the center and on the flanks, Silva could be a strong competitor for Lee. For Lee, it would be difficult to push Silva out of his position.
